Good-paying Jobs: We must raise the minimum wage so that working people can survive and support themselves and their families. In addition, we must prepare North Carolinians for emerging industries; we can do this by establishing mentorship and apprenticeship programs and promoting cooperation for training programs between corporations and community colleges. | |||
| High-quality Public Education: We must raise per pupil spending to at least the national average, raise teacher pay to at least the national average in order to attract and retain qualified teachers, invest in early childhood programs and early intervention supports for at-risk students, and identify and address achievement gap inequities. We can fund education by reversing the massive corporate giveaways that have been handed out under the current legislative tax plan. Our future and the future of our economy depends upon a skilled and educated workforce. |
